Thor Soderberg was a Chicago Police officer who was just finishing his day of doing his job in the afternoon of July 7th. He got jumped and shot just outside a police facility on the Southside of Chicago by a man who some now say is mentally unstable. They struggled. The man grabbed his gun, shot him in the head and ran away. (Later, he got shot and was captured by police. He turns out to have a lengthy criminal record.)

Listening to the “experts” explain it off as a trading error yesterday – basically a “typo” – doesn’t wash. If you know anything about compliance, approving trades, and computer systems, blaming it on a single computer glitch is a stretch. A REAL stretch.

COMMERCIALIZING LITHIUM-ION TECHNOLOGY AT ARGONNE

Argonne National Laboratory is a key player in commercializing lithium-ion technology. Illinois can be as well if the state acts quickly. If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a region to raise economic viability for all.

Interest on last week’s column on lithium-ion battery commercialization has led to some great feedback from prominent readers as well as an interview with Jeff Chamberlin. He’s the senior account manager at Argonne’s office of technology transfer.

Argonne’s lithium-ion battery technology will be commercialized by chemical company BASF under a licensing agreement announced on June 3, 2009.

With the lack of leadership and visionaries in most municipalities and states, why not look at government from Patton's point of view.

Where have all the real leaders gone? What have our business schools been cranking out in the last couple of decades? We don't need more politically correct, we need politically accurate in decision-making roles.
